Please see the following letter to Barham Parish Council received from Suffolk Highways regarding roadworks in the village:

Dear Resident

Bells Cross Road, Barham and Henley – Drainage Improvement Scheme

We will be carrying out drainage improvement works along Bells Cross Road, Barham and Henley from Bull’s Road to Main Road. The works will involve improvements to the drainage system including 4 new gullies, 1 new catch pit and rebuilding of 2 existing, installation of 30 meters of associated pipework and 100 meters of ditch clearance works. It will also involve highway support works consisting of 40 meters of kerbing and carriageway haunching and 20 meters of concrete bag work support.

The work is planned to start on Tuesday 28 May 2019 and will continue for 3 weeks, excluding weekends. Work on site will be carried out week days from around 7am until 4.30pm each day. The times and dates of works may change depending on the weather conditions. If they do change, we will let you know by updating the information signs on site.

The roads will be under 24-hour continuous closure for the duration of the works and will be closed to through traffic. Unfortunately, the road is not wide enough to comply with safety regulations to maintain a safe passing distance for vehicles and a road closure is necessary.

Access to properties and businesses within the road closure will be available but controlled by staff on site. Please speak to one of our staff who will provide access as soon as it is safe to do so. Please be aware that the works will involve excavation in the middle of the road, access and exit will therefore be maintained from both or either end of the road closure. Staff on site will provide assistance and advice to residents in the immediate vicinity of the works. Apologies in advance for any inconvenience or disruption caused.

On street parking will be restricted to allow the works to be carried out unobstructed.

During the period of the closure, traffic will be diverted via: Main Road, Mill Lane, Copper’s Road, Bull Lane and vice versa

These temporary traffic management measures are required to allow the works to be carried out safely and in accordance with current Health and Safety guidelines. Please see the information over the page for more details of how access to your property will be affected by the works, as well as other frequently asked questions.

If you have any other questions about the work, please call us on 0345 606 6171.

Yours faithfully
