Grit Bins –
With the prospect of winter looming and the onset of bad weather, the Parish Council is aware of the need to keep our local roads free of snow and ice whenever possible. To assist with this it has installed a number of yellow grit bins at locations around the village. These should have been topped up with grit which must only be used on the public highway or footpaths. Please note it is an offence for grit to be taken by residents and used on private property.
Please look out for your nearest bin (locations here) and if it needs refilling with grit either now or during the winter months please contact our Parish Clerk who will arrange for this to take place. Also, if you are prepared to volunteer to spread grit on public roads in Claydon you should register with the Parish Clerk so that you will be covered for insurance purposes.
Suffolk County Council have recently introduced a new policy (link here) for gritting roads and will no longer leave piles of grit beside roads for residents to spread when it is needed. Anyone who is affected by this change, and feels that a grit bin is now required instead, should contact our Parish Clerk in the first instance.
